1st Innaugeral USTA Taekwondo Championship UNLV, Las Vegas, Nevada Tiger Stuart Blue was the only World Academy athlete to compete. Turn-out for the event was sparse. In a division of only two competitors, Mr. Blue took double Gold Medals in Olympic Sparring and Poomse over an unqualified competitor from Ohio.
Tekno Fort Worth International Taekwondo Championship Fort Worth, Texas Tiger Stuart Blue was the only Nevada athlete to compete. The World Academy Blue Belt took a handy Gold Medal in Forms but garnered only a Bronze Medal in Kyroogi after being scored loser in a match against celebrity athlete Isaac Park, the grandson of Tournament Director Grandmaster Won Park. Coach Bob's protest of the preferrential byes awarded to the opponent and blatant scoring "irregularities" was rejected by the partisan officials.
19th Annual Arizona Open Taekwondo Championship Sierra Vista, Arizona Tiger Stuart Blue was the only Nevada athlete to compete. The World Academy Blue Belt took a Gold Medal in both Poomse and Kyroogi in a division of 12 competitors from Arizona, New Mexico and Mexico.
Aztecas Open Taekwondo Championship Hesperia, California
Master Camacho Friendship Taekwondo Championship Tournament Phoenix, Arizona Tigers Yarleny Roa, Angelica Roa, and Stuart Blue travelled to Phoenix, Arizona on last-minute notice to square off against teams from Mexico, California and Arizona that included tough comopetitors from the elite Camacho TKD and Aguilas TKD Teams.
The schools three "Tournament Rats" all took away medals from this Sparring only meet.Mr. Blue led off in a combined Intermediate/Advaced Division, taking down his initial opponent, a Brown Belt in only 18 seconds then dispatching two more opponents with power and authority to take First Place. Red Belt Angelica Roa was next up, battling to a hard fought Second Place against a tough, hard-hitting pre-Black. Finally, new Black Belt Yarleny Roa battled her way to hard hitting, bloody First Place victory over Aguilas and Camachos two toughest 16 year olds.
The team entertained themselves for the rest of the day watching a series of rousing matches between tough elite competitors from the Camacho and Aguilas Teams.
